Five-Thousand Yen for What?
I go used-game shopping pretty often. I don’t have any of the newfangled game consoles (anything past the Playstation), used games go pretty cheap, and there’s plenty (especially in Japanese) that I haven’t played. So, it’s a pretty good endeavour.
Last weekend I met up with a few friends and we toured the Osu area again. For those unfamiliar with Nagoya, in Osu you can find a beautiful temple, occasional wholesale markets, and a massive amount of electronics shops. Used game shops in particular are plentiful, and so we hit up a few of those…
First, I found the original Mega CD (US Sega CD) version of Lunar: The Silver Star, for 380 yen. Not only is this one of my favourite games, but the price was impossible to turn down. Then, I found the original Chrono Trigger (with the box) for only 680 yen, another great deal. But… later in the day, at another shop, I found the Mega CD version of Lunar: Eternal Blue… for 5000 yen.
About this game… It came out over a decade ago, and I absolutely fell in love with the American version for Sega CD. I already have the original Sega CD game, the slightly-upgraded Japanese Saturn version, and the American Playstation version. But, of course, I bought this one, too.
Look at it this way: I just paid $48 for my fourth version of a ten-year old game. And I’m damn happy with that purchase.
You’ve Got AIDS!
In other news, me and Gaspar gave our presentation today. The topic: AIDS in China, but with a bit of a caveat: our third partner was knocked out by a fever this weekend and couldn’t come. So, this involved some last-minute covering (Japanese: ƒJƒo[‚·‚é) to make up for his part. Gaspar, then, came up with the perfect explanation: our third partner got AIDS.
After that, the rest of the ad-libs just wrote themself. In all, it was quite a fun presentation (though the Time Machine presentation where I had to dress up as Buddha was, by comparison, much better).
That’s it for this update. But, check back by this Thursday for: 101 Uses for a J-Phone! It promises to be the most useful post yet. ‘Til then. KF

If it hadn’t been for your cellphone, we wouldn’t have had that Alfred Hitchcock Presents… theme for our presentation today. Too bad our Hitchcock wasn’t able to be in the project.
Whew! For a scond there, I thought you were going to write, “I had to dress up as a girl”… or some other transgender remark….
Oh hell no, I’d dress up like a girl for free. KF
Glad to see your facination with women’s clothes and becoming the opposite gender hasn’t decreased Kaiser.
Shopping in Japan is a dangerous dangerous thing. You think you are getting good deals on all this crazy stuff you have always wanted but in reality your spending cash on stuff you do not need either way. Damn you Japan!!!
How morbid….do you realize that you just wrote that speaking about AIDS was “fun”?!
I guess you’re a guy who really knows how to have a good time if that was “fun”?
