  • Before and Four Years After

    Way Before Before After
    1999 2002 2004

So if the last time you saw me was in 1999, with that goofy moustache, and you saw me now, you’d likely assume just a little bit’s happened in the last few years. If I weren’t so embarassed, I’d toss up a pic of when I had a huge head of hair back then, too.

But, that’s how it was last Sunday. My previous host family, with whom I stayed back in the Summer of 1999, and I finally were able to meet up once again. I contacted them last November/December after three years to let them know I was heading in soon, and we finally found time when all of us were (relatively) free enough for me to visit. It was great, of course, and we were able to catch up on plenty.

Beyond the physical changes, though, there were a few lingual ones. See, I began studying Japanese independently in 9th grade, and so when I came in 1999 I could speak a bit, but I was admittedly awful. I mostly spoke with my host parents in English, in fact. This time around, I think we exchanged a total of… five, six words in English, and fortunately didn’t feel limited in the least.

Speaking of which, my results for a (free) oral placement interview came in several days ago. Apparently, I’m about where I figured: intermediate level, slightly higher. The main problem was in explaining non-daily activities (e.g., vacation details, novel contents); the comment sheet was more detailed than I’ll go into here, though.

Not much else has happened; besides going to JR Towers yesterday, things are relatively slow. …plenty has been happening in the rest of the world, but if I wanted to discuss politics and current events I’ll pick a better place than here. So, until something else happens, I’m out. KF

  • Woah, that’s pretty freaky… in your first photo, you look like Poncho Villa or something, then in the next one you look like someone from the Arabian Nights. Whew, I like the last one… you look like you! hahahhahaha. I don’t even know what that means….

  • Maybe you should try growing a beard just to try all of your options.

  • I have grown a beard; had it for one year. That second photo was taken while it was still coming in, so it’s not too clear. I don’t have any of when it was real thick, unfortunately. KF

  • Awww that latest pic is very handsome, Kizzie!  No more moustaches or beards!  XD

  • i vote for hairless kizyr.  definitely the best way to go. (youre soooooo soft late at night…………………;))
