To Allah We Belong, and to Him Is Our Return
Yesterday afternoon I received news that, due to a tragic accident, one of my friends at GWU passed away just two days ago.
He was a very good person… the kind of man that many of us in the Muslim community back home were happy to see join us. He was the kind you couldn’t imagine getting angry or upset, and was one with whom you could very easily get along. He was a Freshman at George Washington–he was even studying Japanese–and many, including myself, sincerely felt that he would become such a great person in his time there. I mean, right at the outset, he wanted to work with the other brothers and sisters in the MSA and IAJ.
The community back home, at GWU, prayed last night on his behalf. I wish I could have been there with them; but, my host family, friends I’ve talked to over the phone, and mother and sister back in Nashville have all helped. I went yesterday afternoon to the Nagoya Mosque after hearing the news.
When I feel in higher spirits, I’ll make that other update I promised. For now, I’ll just need a few days.
Brother Hasan Hussein, we all miss you. Allah hafez. KF
Al-’Asr
In the name of God, most Gracious, most Merciful
1. By (the Token of) Time (through the ages),
2. Verily Man is in loss,
3. Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.
Surah 103, Al-’Asr – Abdullah Yusuf Ali trans.
